Where is the Church located?

When is the church open for tours?

Yes! Tours are available between May 24th and October 31st annually. Please check our calendar for dates and times.

Can groups visit the church?

Private tours can be scheduled upon request. Groups are limited to between 2 to 40 persons.

When was the church built and by whom?

The Oro AME Church was constructed between 1945 and 1949 by Black Settlers and former Black Veterans of the War of 1812w ho emigrated here from the United States searching for freedom and relief from discrimination.

Are there plans to expand the site?

Yes. The Oro Freedom Insitute is working with the Township and community to construct an interpretive centre on the church site.
